Västervik

A City for Every Season

The Swedish city of Västervik is one of three coastal areas in the province of Småland. Described as Sweden’s best summer city, it’s bursting with attractions, delicious food and culture, making Västervik a wonderful place to visit at any time of the year.

Visit a history museum with a difference when you visit the Hjorteds Mopedmuseum and learn about the history of the moped. The museum has around 140 vehicles from the 20th century with a special emphasis on its development during the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Once you’ve finished travelling back in time, step outside and explore the world class art at the annual BANK! Street Art Festival. With art covering over 3500m of wall space, and featuring some of the best street artists in the world.

With a plethora of shops ranging from independent to high street stores, you’ll be spoiling yourself when you visit Västervik. For the bargain hunters and for those who love items with stories, there are plenty of flea markets to enjoy so you can pick up some second-hand treats.

There’s plenty of delicious food to enjoy in Västervik, whether it’s casual, fine dining or family favourites. Dine in style at Gränsö Castle, a modern, classic restaurant and enjoy delicious locally sourced food in opulent surroundings. Smuggleren is a snug and intimate restaurant that houses nine tables with space for 36 guests. For an authentic experience, try the evening’s five-course menu which includes local food and wine and will have you feeling satisfyingly full when you leave.

Get back to nature and whether it’s fishing, kayaking or hiking, there’s miles of landscapes to explore. With varied hiking trails for the experienced and the beginner, see the wonder of the great outdoors in Västervik.

For golf lovers, Västervik has three fantastic courses that vary in size, character and play.  Feel the sea air on your face at Västerviks Golfklubb, an 18-hole course that covers park, forest and beach. Challenge yourself at a 9-hole forest course in Lysingsbadets Golfklubb. Loftahammars Golfklubb is a 9-hole course which is located in hilly forest and park terrains. Don’t worry, if you’ve not packed your clubs as all three courses have well-equipped golf shops.

Padel sports is huge in Sweden and Västervik has three indoor halls and several outdoor courts. Pick up a padel and participate in one of the fastest growing sports right now. Or how about a game of golf frisbee? Yes, you read that right, it’s a round of golf but with a frisbee. Alviken Disc Golf course is an 18-hole frisbee golf course and is guaranteed fun for all!

Take a train journey in the past and travel on the narrow track between Hultsfred and Västervik. Travel all the way or stop of at one of the 20 stations during the journey. Book a boat trip and discover Hasselö which is Västervik's archipelago's largest and most populated island. This island is action packed with adventures for all ages, choose from child friendly beaches or a varied landscape to explore. Experience fun under one roof at Oddis Lekland, play in the playground or challenge your friends to a game of LaserGame.

Whether it’s city exploring, island hopping or shouting fore from one of the tremendous golf courses, there’s something for everyone in Västervik.
